Announcements
August
13, 2008: The tower climb was successful. The realignment
of the back haul radio corrected the signal strength issue
that some of our customers were experiencing. The new installation
of an extender arm essentially eliminated the shadow or lack
of signal that had prevented us from supplying service to
a small portion of our potential service area.
At this time it appears that
the issues with the AT&T line, router and DNS server have
been successfully resolved. We do continue to have intermittent
problems with throughput on our mail servers. The primary
cause of this is surges in the unrelenting growth of spam.
We, like all other email providers, are looking at ways to
minimize the impact for our customers.
August
8, 2008: Unless prohibited by bad weather, we have
scheduled work to be done on the radio tower on Monday, August
11 beginning at about 2:00 P.M. There will be a temporary
interruption of service at that time. Among issues being taken
care of is a realignment of the back haul radio.
August
4, 2008: AT&T has scheduled service on their T-1
line for noon on Tuesday, August 5. There will be a temporary
interruption of service at that time. Sprint had a problem
with their lines on Sunday, August 3 which impacted us at
that time.
July 25,
2008: The software updates are complete. Everyone should
be back on line. There are some cleanup issues that we will
be addressing next week.
July 22,
2008: The software updates are taking about 30 to 45
minutes per customer onsite. By working extended hours, we
were able to get a large number of wireless customers back
up on Monday. We will be continuing that effort on Tuesday.
To minimize the driving and increase the efficiency of the
on sites, each technician is working within a specific geographic
section of our coverage area.
July 18,
2008: On Saturday July 12, our radio antenna on Farnham
Street became inoperable due to lightning/electrical damage.
The direct effect of this weather event was that our wireless
Internet service was brought down. A replacement radio was
ordered on Monday for overnight delivery. We contracted with
a professional tower installer and got the replacement radio
installed in the early evening on Tuesday. Initial testing
at that time indicated that the new radio was functioning
properly and that service had been restored.
Only later did we learn that
the new radio was operating with a newer version of software
that was not compatible with the software on most of our individual
client radios. While a software upgrade may seem like a simple
matter, it required extensive research. That research indicated
that the upgrade path varied among the different radios we
have installed. In other words, there are several different
upgrades to be done and they need to be done individually
for each of our clients.
Our support staff has been dedicated
this week to getting all of our wireless customers up and
running again. In addition to them working overtime to address
this issue, we have brought in an additional person to assist.
We fully realize how this event
has affected our customers. We hope they all understand that
we are giving our best efforts to correct the results of this
unforeseen event.
